Where Shiva and Parvati are believed to have married
Tradition holds that Shiva married Parvati at Triyuginarayan, with Vishnu standing as Parvati’s brother and Brahma as the priest.
In front of the temple burns the Akhand Dhuni, a fire believed to have been lit for that wedding and kept alight ever since. Couples take their pheras at the sacred fire, and many families take a little of its ash home as prasad.
The temple is a stone Himalayan shrine to Vishnu, in the style of Kedarnath, set in a small village at 1,980 m. The sacred kunds nearby are named after Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra and Saraswati.

What we can’t promise
Your date depends on the priests
Muhurat and ceremony times are set locally. Popular dates fill months ahead, so tell us early.
Weather can change plans
Snow in winter and landslides in the monsoon can close the road. We plan a buffer day and tell you the backup before you book.
It’s a small village temple
The courtyard is small and facilities are basic. Local custom keeps weddings simple, without DJs or loud music.
Signal is patchy
Mobile coverage is weak in places. Your consultant shares the plan in writing before you leave.
Questions couples ask
Last updated October 2026.
Can anyone get married at Triyuginarayan temple?
Couples marry here in a Vedic ceremony conducted by local priests, with parents or guardians present. We confirm the current requirements with the priests for your date.
Is a Triyuginarayan temple wedding legally valid?
The temple ceremony is a religious wedding. For a legal record you register the marriage separately. In Uttarakhand, marriages are registered under the Uniform Civil Code on ucc.uk.gov.in within 60 days, and we guide you through it.
What documents do we need?
Usually photo ID and age proof for the bride and groom, passport-size photos, witnesses with ID, and parents or guardians present. We confirm the current list for your date.
What is the best time for a Triyuginarayan wedding?
April to June and September to November. Avoid July and August, when monsoon landslides can block the road. December to February brings snow and cold.
How do we reach Triyuginarayan?
Fly to Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun or take a train to Rishikesh or Haridwar, then drive via Devprayag, Rudraprayag and Guptkashi to Sonprayag. The temple is about 12 km by road from Sonprayag.
How many guests can attend?
Weddings here are usually small because the courtyard is small. We plan packages for up to 15, 40 or 100 guests and work out the ceremony with the priests.
What does the package cost?
It depends on your date, guest count, stays and transport. Temple and priest dakshina are paid at local rates. Your consultant sends an itemised quote before you pay.
Is it suitable for elderly parents?
Yes, with planning. The temple is at 1,980 m and nights are cold. We choose stays with short walks, plan daylight drives and keep the schedule unhurried.
